System requirements

This version of Handy Folders requires Windows XP/2000/ME/98 environment.
Required free disk space: 1.6 MB minimum.

Important! The software will NOT operate under NT4, Windows 3.xx and Windows NT 3.xx.

Installing the software

To install the software, launch the self-extracting installation package and follow the instructions. You will be requested to indicate the folder for Handy Folders to be installed.

Note: If you have a previous version of Handy Folders installed on your PC, do not delete it for installing a newer version: just install it over the existing one. All your settings and data files will be left intact.

After the installation the program displays itself in two ways: as a handy folder icon in the system tray - see Icon in system tray, and as a new toolbar in the Windows Explorer, Open or Save dialogs - see Handy Folders toolbar.

Note: If you do not see the Handy Folders toolbar in the Windows Explorer, display it manually: see Show / hide Handy Folders toolbar for detail.

Handy Folders toolbar

Once you have installed the software, the customizable Handy Folders toolbar is embedded in the Windows Explorer and any Open or Save dialog box in the programs installed on your PC. Use the toolbar for quick access to predefined folders and categories, and to the drives on your PC or LAN.

The Handy Folders toolbar contains: Handy Folders icon with a drop-down list of your favorite folders; Optionally: icons for Handy Folders categories with a drop-down list of assigned folders; Optionally: the list drives on your PC and LAN, either as push buttons (see the image above) or as a drop-down list

To configure the display of drives and categories, go to Configure dialog box - see Windows Explorer settings and Dialog settings for detail.

Show / hide Handy Folders toolbar

In the Windows Explorer do one of the following: select View | Toolbars | Handy Folders menu and check/uncheck Handy Folders, or right-click the toolbars area and check/uncheck Handy Folders in the pop-up menu.

Note: If your toolbars are not locked, you may shift the Handy Folders toolbar as needed. To lock/unlock the toolbars, click View | Toolbars | Lock the Toolbars menu and check/uncheck Lock the Toolbars.
